History

Imayama Station opened on 22 August 1937 when Japanese Government Railways inaugurated the Yoake–Hōshuyama section of the then Hikosan Line. The track became part of the Hitahikosan Line on 1 April 1960. Freight handling ended in 1962 and the station was made unstaffed in 1971. Control passed to JR Kyushu at privatisation on 1 April 1987. Torrential rainfall in July 2017 buried much of the line in mud and rail service along the Soeda–Yoake section that includes Imayama was suspended indefinitely. JR Kyushu replaced the rail link with a BRT route (the Hikoboshi Line), which began operation on 28 August 2023 with a stop at the southern end of the former rail station.

Notes

After the 2017 floods cut the line, the rail station remained closed indefinitely; JR Kyushu eventually replaced the route with a bus rapid transit service in 2023 rather than rebuilding the rails.
