History

Kanaishihara Station opened on 1 March 1935 as Kanaishihara halt (停留場) on the private Kitakyushu Railway's new extension from Yamamoto to Imari. After the railway was nationalised on 1 October 1937 the station was redesignated a full Japanese Government Railways station, and the route became the Chikuhi Line. The stop was upgraded to a general (ippan) station on 10 November 1946. Small-package freight handling ended on 1 December 1961, parcel handling on 1 October 1970 — and the station became unstaffed the same day. JR Kyushu took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. The station, in the city of Imari, Saga Prefecture, sits 19.7 km from the start of the western Chikuhi Line at Yamamoto. There is no station building, only a shelter on the single side platform serving one track.
