History
Sugikawachi Station was opened on 15 March 1957 by Japanese National Railways as an additional stop on the existing Kyūdai Main Line, in the city of Hita, Ōita Prefecture. The station sits 63.6 km from the start of the line at Kurume. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Kyushu, the present operator. The platform is laid out on a side-hill cutting overlooking the main road and a deep river valley, and consists of a single side platform serving one track. The unstaffed station building, a modern timber structure, is reached from the access road by a flight of steps or a long slope, with a further ramp or short stair up to the slightly higher platform level.

Notes
Train passengers can glimpse Jion Falls from the carriage window while passing through Sugikawachi — the waterfall is signposted as an attraction of the station, but is best seen from the moving train itself.
