History

Tosa-Shōwa Station is in the town of Shimanto, Takaoka District, Kōchi Prefecture, on JR Shikoku's Yodo Line (station number G31, 26.5 km from Wakai). It opened on 1 March 1974 under Japanese National Railways, and was transferred to JR Shikoku at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The single side platform is mounted on an embankment above town level; an access tunnel passes through the embankment to a concrete ramp and stair leading up to the platform, where a shelter is provided for waiting passengers. A bike shed and limited parking sit at the base, and an unstaffed tourist information centre nearby serves as an auxiliary waiting room.

Notes

Although the station has been fully unstaffed for years, the nearby Showa Tourist Information Centre once acted as its simplified-commission ticket agent — and today that same building doubles as an auxiliary waiting room.
