History
Hidariishi Station opened on 27 March 1920 as Ōno Station on the Sasebo Light Railway (later Sasebo Railway), serving the section between Ainoura and Yunoki. It was renamed to Hidariishi on 20 April 1929. When the Sasebo Railway was nationalised on 1 October 1936 the stop was absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways' Matsuura Line, and the branch toward Yunoki became the separate Yunoki Line. Freight handling ended in 1970 and the Yunoki Line itself was withdrawn in 1967 after flood damage. The station passed to JR Kyushu at privatisation on 1 April 1987 and was transferred to the third-sector Matsuura Railway on 1 April 1988, becoming unstaffed at the same time.

Notes
In March 2024 Matsuura Railway re-styled the station name board with kanji-first signage and added "Sasebo Nishi High School" as a subsidiary station name.
