History

Yamanota Station is a halt on the Matsuura Railway Nishi-Kyūshū Line in Kasuga-chō, Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. An earlier "Yamanota" stop on the private Sasebo Railway opened on 7 October 1920 when the line between Hidari-ishi and Kami-Sasebo was inaugurated; it was nationalised in 1936 as part of the Matsuura Line but lost in the regauging works of 30 August 1943. The current Matsuura Railway station opened on 10 March 1990, well after the line had been transferred from JR Kyushu to the third-sector operator in 1988. The unstaffed building combines a clock-tower-style waiting room with the single side platform.
