History

Tenjinyama Station opened on 29 September 1923 as an intermediate stop on the former Daito Line, on the same day as Yunohira became the western terminus of the line's latest extension. The Daito Line had been built by the private Daito Railway, nationalised on 1 December 1922; on 15 November 1934 Japanese Government Railways redesignated the route as part of the Kyūdai Main Line. The station lost freight handling on 1 October 1962 and parcel service on 20 January 1984, after which the building was eventually demolished. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR Kyushu, and in 2001 a public toilet was added in the forecourt.

Notes

Access from the entrance to the platform crosses the live track at grade, so a warning device on the platform side activates whenever a train enters the station to alert passengers.
