History

Utsuigawa Station opened on 1 March 1974 as a Japanese National Railways unstaffed halt on the Yodo Line, in the town of Shimanto, Takaoka District, Kōchi Prefecture. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 control passed to JR Shikoku, and the station carries the line number G29. It has always consisted of a single side platform on an embankment, with a passenger shelter but no station building, accessed by a flight of steps from the road; a bike shed and toilet are located at the base of the embankment, but the platform itself is not wheelchair-accessible. The station is the nearest stop to the Kaiyodo Hobby Museum further inland.
