History

Ukibuchi Station opened on 1 October 1970 under Japanese National Railways as part of the Nakamura Line extension between Tosa-Saga and Nakamura. With the 1987 breakup of JNR control passed briefly to JR Shikoku, then on 1 April 1988 to the third-sector Tosa Kuroshio Railway when the line was spun off. The unstaffed station sits on an embankment in Kuroshio, Kōchi Prefecture, with an island platform serving two tracks reached by an underpass from a secondary road. It is one of only two intermediate stations on the Nakamura Line equipped with passing loops; only local trains stop there.
