History
Higashi-Sukumo opened on 1 October 1997 as an intermediate stop on Tosa Kuroshio Railway's newly laid Sukumo Line between Nakamura and Sukumo, operated as a third-sector concession. It has a single elevated side platform without a station building, accessed by a flight of steps. On 2 March 2005, a runaway-train accident at Sukumo halted all service on the Sukumo Line. Limited local services through Higashi-Sukumo and Nakamura resumed on 7 April 2005, limited-express trains on 13 June 2005, and the section from Sukumo back to Higashi-Sukumo reopened on 1 November 2005, restoring the full line. The station carries the number TK46.

Notes
When the line was first planned, this station was the one that would have carried the name "Sukumo" — that name eventually went to the western terminus instead.
