History

Sukumo opened on 1 October 1997 as the terminus of Tosa Kuroshio Railway's new Sukumo Line, 23.6 km from the opposite terminus at Nakamura. The station carries the number TK47. It is an elevated station of two bay platforms serving two terminating tracks, connected to a ground-floor concourse by stairs and a lift, with a staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office. On 2 March 2005 a runaway-train collision at Sukumo suspended all line services; local trains as far as Higashi-Sukumo resumed on 7 April 2005 and limited-express services were restored on 13 June 2005, but the line from Sukumo itself remained closed until reopening on 1 November 2005.

Notes

Service from this terminus was suspended for nearly nine months after a runaway-train collision at the station in March 2005 — limited services east of Higashi-Sukumo resumed first, with Sukumo itself reopening only on 1 November 2005.
