History
The Kumamoto Electric Railway opened the station on the Kikuchi Line on 9 January 1995 as Denpa-Kōsen-mae Station (電波高専前駅), at the request of the adjacent Kumamoto National College of Technology. After the school was reorganised and renamed, the station was redesignated Kumamotokōsen-mae on 31 March 2013. The regional Kumamon IC Card became usable on 1 April 2015, and the station was assigned the number KD17 when line-wide station numbering was introduced on 1 October 2019. The stop has remained a single side platform with no station building throughout, with an IC card reader installed on the platform.
