History

Mitsuishi opened on the Kumamoto Electric Railway Kikuchi Line on 25 February 2001, established when the line was realigned as part of the National Route 387 widening project; it has the distinction of being the company's first new station of the 21st century. The stop was built to serve the developing Mitsuishi residential district and to give existing residents a rail option where only buses had previously served the area. Kumamon IC Card access began on 1 April 2015, and station number KD15 was assigned on 1 October 2019. The layout is a single side platform with no station building; part of it sits beneath the Kyushu Expressway embankment crossing overhead.

Notes

A combined ticket has been sold for transfers between Kumamoto Electric Railway trains here and the "Hinokuni-go" expressway bus at the nearby Nishigōshi bus stop, with the station displaying timetable and route information for that connection.
