History
Saiwai Station opened on 11 March 2000 on the Shimabara Railway Line, 2.9 km from the line's origin at Isahaya. Built to serve a redeveloped commercial district east of central Isahaya, the station has one south-side side platform and no station building, only a roof over the platform and a bicycle-parking area underneath. It is unattended and is operated by the third-sector Shimabara Railway. The surrounding area, served by frequent Nagasaki Prefectural buses to Isahaya and Nagasaki, has filled in with shopping centres along National Route 57 since the station opened.
