Honmyōji-Iriguchi opened on 24 March 1935 as Honmyōji-mae Station (本妙寺前駅) and was renamed Honmyōji-Iriguchi on 1 March 2011. Platform-extension and shelter work to prepare for new rolling stock was carried out between January and March 2024.
