Notes
The stop name reflects the surrounding place name: in the early Edo period this area was occupied by samurai residences which were later moved east of the Tsuboi River, opening the land for townspeople. The settlement on the original samurai side was called Furumachi ('old town') and the new merchant settlement here Shinmachi ('new town'); when the area was later renamed, Shinmachi became the formal address. The Furumachi side is served by the parallel A-route of the tram system. Shinmachi is the start of a dedicated right-of-way segment that runs east to Senba-bashi.
