History

Reikyūkōen-Taiikukan Station opened on 12 November 1984 as Shimatetsu Honshamae Station, named for the adjacent Shimabara Railway head office. It became unstaffed on 1 April 2008 and was renamed to its present, longer name on 1 October 2019 — a change that reflects the station's relationship to the neighbouring Reikyu Park gymnasium and martial-arts hall. Located 41.5 km from the line's Isahaya starting point in the city of Shimabara, the stop consists of a single side platform with a station building on the platform itself; there are no automatic ticket machines. The Shimabara Railway head office that gave the station its original name moved out of the immediate neighbourhood in July 2020.

Notes

The station was renamed away from 'Shimatetsu Honshamae' in 2019, just months before the Shimabara Railway head office that had given the stop its original name actually moved out of the neighbourhood.
