Kengunko-mae

健軍校前

History

Kenguntōmae opened on 6 May 1945 as a Kumamoto City Tram (Kenkun Line) stop. Before 1964 it was renamed Kenkun-Kōdōri (Marist-Gakuen-mae), and reverted to Kenguntōmae before 1969. The platforms and tracks were relocated for engineering work between November 2023 and March 2024. The name comes from Kumamoto Municipal Kenkun Elementary School, about 200 metres north. The two opposing platforms toward Tōrichōsuji and Kenkun-machi are slightly offset along the road and reached via an unsignalled crosswalk. It is stop number 23 on the Kenkun Line.
