History

Higo-Futami Station opened on 15 April 1925 as a station on the Japanese Government Railways Kagoshima Main Line. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, it passed to JR Kyushu. On 13 March 2004 the coastal stretch of the line between Yatsushiro and Sendai was transferred to the third-sector Hisatsu Orange Railway, and Higo-Futami moved with it. Station numbering was introduced on 1 October 2019, with the station's nameboard updated accordingly. The layout consists of two opposed side platforms at street level connected by a footbridge, with platform 1 used by Yatsushiro-bound trains and platform 2 by Sendai-bound trains; the small station building shares a refurbishment design with Fukuro Station.

Notes

The station looks out directly onto the Yatsushiro Sea, with National Route 3 running parallel to the line a short distance from the platforms.
