History
Fukuro Station opened on 21 July 1926 as a station on the Kagoshima Main Line of the Japanese Government Railways. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station was transferred to JR Kyushu. When the first segment of the Kyushu Shinkansen opened on 13 March 2004, the Yatsushiro-Sendai stretch of the former Kagoshima Main Line was transferred to the third-sector Hisatsu Orange Railway, which has operated Fukuro since. The station, located 55.4 km from Yatsushiro, consists of two opposed side platforms at street level connected by a footbridge, with a small station building of a design similar to that of nearby Higo-Futami.

Notes
The compact station building shares its visual design with that of nearby Higo-Futami Station on the same line.
