History
Origuchi Station opened on 25 March 1923 as a station on the Sendai Line of Japanese Government Railways, which was incorporated into the Kagoshima Main Line on 17 October 1927. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Kyushu. When the first Kyushu Shinkansen segment opened on 13 March 2004, the Yatsushiro-Sendai stretch was transferred to the third-sector Hisatsu Orange Railway. Located 80.7 km from Yatsushiro in Akune, the station has two side platforms with three tracks connected by a footbridge. The original wooden station building was demolished in 1980 and replaced by a simple modern structure.

Notes
The roomy timber station building demolished in 1980 was succeeded by today's minimal structure; the third track and footbridge remain as a reminder of busier times.
