History
Ebino Uwae Station opened on 5 July 1957 as Uwae Station, added by Japanese National Railways as an additional stop on the existing Kitto Line track 48.6 km from Miyakonojō. The station was opened without a station building; a simple shelter at the platform entrance has always served as the waiting area. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR Kyushu's control. On 1 November 1990 — the same day that nearby Kakutō was renamed Ebino — Uwae was renamed Ebino Uwae to reflect its location within the newly merged city of Ebino. The station remains unstaffed and lightly used.

Notes
The station has never had a proper station building — only a small shelter at the platform entrance has served as the waiting area since 1957.
