Tenmonkandori #1- 07, #2-07

天文館通

History

Tenmonkan-dōri opened on 22 July 1914 on the Kagoshima Electric Tramway as the nearest tram stop to the Tenmonkan district — the largest entertainment and shopping district in southern Kyushu. The two-platform layout is at street level; the north-side platform serves trains toward Kagoshima-ekimae and the south-side platform serves Takamibaba. The Tenmonkan name comes from a former Edo-period observatory (天文館) maintained by the Satsuma domain. In the early hours of 23 October 2004 a crane working on an arcade-roof reconstruction overturned and severed the overhead wire, suspending service from the first train until early evening with bus substitution; no one was injured.
