History

Miyakōji Station is a Kagoshima City Tram Tōsō Line tram stop in Chūō-chō, Kagoshima. It opened on 1 October 1950 under the Kagoshima City Transportation Section (today the Kagoshima City Transportation Bureau). Only Route 2 (Kōrimoto – Kagoshima-Chūō-eki-mae – Tenmonkan – Kagoshima-eki-mae) uses the stop. The two side platforms are at-grade, and both are restricted to standard wheelchairs because the platform width is below the regulation needed for powered chairs. The stop is unstaffed; tickets are not sold on site. Nearby points of interest include Kagoshima Municipal Nakasu Elementary School, Kagoshima Prefectural Kōnan High School and the Aēru Tower redevelopment building.

Notes

Miyakōji is one of the youngest tram stops on the Tōsō Line, opened in 1950, fully 36 years after most First-Phase Line stops; the entire Tōsō Line itself was developed by the city after the war as a connector between the older First-Phase route and the Kagoshima-Chūō station district.
