History
Shirasawa Station was opened on 31 October 1963 in the Shirasawa-Nishi neighbourhood of Makurazaki, on the day JNR extended the Ibusuki Line south from Saijo to Makurazaki and renamed it the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line. It started out as an unstaffed passenger stop and has never had a station building, only a single side platform reached directly from the road. JR Kyushu took over the stop at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Nearby on the former Makurazaki Airport site is a prefectural disaster-prevention heliport and solar power plant — the only conspicuous infrastructure other than National Route 226.
