History
Ei Station opened on 23 March 1960 as a stop on the JNR Ibusuki Line, in what is now the city of Minamikyūshū. It has always operated as an unstaffed, passenger-only station. On 1 April 1987 the station transferred to JR Kyushu at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. A staffed building once stood here, but it has since been demolished, leaving only an exposed single side platform with a short open shelter. The stop sits some 66 km from Kagoshima-Chūō, the northern end of the line.
