History

Maegata Station is a JR East halt on the Tazawako Line in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, opened on 18 March 2023 as a petition station requested by the city. Morioka filed its petition in January 2020 and signed a basic agreement with JR East that August; Aeon Mall joined in February 2021, contributing ¥200,000,000 toward a total project cost of roughly ¥1,100,000,000 funded mainly by the municipality and national grants. The name was selected in January 2022, construction began in December 2021, and a safety ceremony preceded the March 2023 opening. The unstaffed ground-level station has a single 85 m platform for four-car trains, a simple Suica gate added on 27 May 2023, and sits beside Aeon Mall Morioka.

Notes

The station opened on the same day as Makuharitoyosuna Station in Chiba; both are petition stations whose construction costs were partly underwritten by Aeon Mall.
