History
Teshiogawa-Onsen Station opened on 1 July 1956 as the Minami-Sakkuru Temporary Halt, one of many small stops added to the Soya Main Line when diesel railcar services were introduced. After the village-run Teshiogawa hot-spring resort opened nearby it was renamed Teshiogawa-Onsen Temporary Halt on 1 July 1981, and was upgraded to a full station on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. Operating kilometres were set on 10 March 1990. After ridership averaged below one passenger per day, JR Hokkaido transferred maintenance to Otoineppu Village from 1 April 1 2021. In 2023 the deteriorating waiting room was renovated using furusato-nōzei donations.

Notes
The station was opened only after four decades of resident petitioning: until 1956 villagers in the Sakkuru-South and Yamuwakanai districts walked roughly four kilometres to Sakkuru Station to catch a train.
