History
Nisshin began on 1 December 1955 as Nisshin Temporary Halt on the Sōya Main Line between Nayoro and Chitō, set up at the request of local residents who supplied the timber and labour for the wooden platform; a waiting room was added in April 1956. Coinciding with the start of diesel-railcar passenger service, the halt was upgraded to a full station on 1 November 1959 as an unstaffed stop handling passengers only. JR Hokkaido took over the station with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. In December 2019 JR Hokkaido asked the Sōya Main Line municipalities to decide by March 2020 whether to maintain the station themselves or accept abolition; Nayoro City assumed maintenance responsibility from April 2021.

Notes
The 'Nisshin' name comes from settlers who came from Gifu Prefecture and chose the phrase 'nisshin-geppo' (continuous advancement) as the place name.
