History

Sattsuru Station opened on 1929-11-14 as Sakkaku Station, a general station of Japanese Government Railways on what is now the Senmō Main Line. When Kami-Shari Village became Kiyosato Town in 1955, the local district was reorganised as Sattsuru-chō, and the station was renamed Sattsuru on 1956-04-10. A spur to the Sakkaku Veneer plant opened on 1963-01-15. Freight handling ended on 1982-09-10, parcels on 1984-02-01, and the last staff withdrew on 1986-11-01, after which the station was simply commissioned. JR Hokkaido took over at the 1987 privatisation, and the simple commission lapsed on 1992-04-01, leaving the station fully unstaffed. The former through siding, opposite platform, and freight platform have all since been removed.

Notes

The name comes from the Ainu name of the Sakkaku River, sak-ru ('summer road'), the same etymology behind Sakkuru Station on the Sōya Main Line.
