History

Ainosato-Kyōikudai Station opened on 1 November 1986 as a petition station serving the new Sapporo New Town Ainosato development and the relocated Hokkaido University of Education Sapporo Campus, which moved to the district in 1987. Local residents had organised a campaign for the stop in 1984, and Japanese National Railways approved construction in March 1985. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Hokkaido. A second southern entrance was added on 13 October 2012 to serve the later South Ainosato development, and the Sasshō Line through the station was electrified on 1 June 2012.
