History
Hoshioki Station opened as a Japanese National Railways passenger stop on the Hakodate Main Line on 1 October 1985, taking its name from the adjacent Hoshioki residential development at local residents' request. The site had earlier hosted a temporary signal post from 6 March 1923, since closed at an unknown date. JR Hokkaido took over operation at privatisation on 1 April 1987. Automated ticket gates arrived on 1 December 1998 and the IC fare card Kitaca began service on 25 October 2008. Until Hoshimi Station opened in March 1995, several local trains terminated at Hoshioki. From 16 March 2024 the station became a stop for the Niseko Liner and daytime Airport rapid services.

Notes
The entrance archway above the station building is decorated with a rainbow-and-star motif that nods to the station's name (literally 'star placement').
