History

Shindō-Higashi Station opened on 2 December 1988 as part of the inaugural Tōhō Line of the Sapporo Municipal Subway running from Sakaemachi to Hōsui-Susukino. Its working name during construction had been 'Sapporo Shindō Station' but it was opened under the present name, indicating its position on the east side of the Sapporo Shindō (Highway). Platform-edge sliding doors entered service on 24 March 2017, the same day that completed installation of such barriers across every Sapporo subway station. On 1 June 2025, the station was given the secondary name 'Pro-no Sapporo Honten-mae', advertised on signage above the station-name plate for a three-year term.

Notes

The station stamp incorporates the letter 'S' for Shindō with an illustration of Sapporo Satoland tucked inside it.
