History

Kotoni Station opened on 10 June 1976 as the western terminus of the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tōzai Line, on the same day that the inaugural section between Kotoni and Shiroishi went into service. The provisional name during construction was 'Kotoni-Hondōri'. When the Tōzai Line was extended from Kotoni to Miyanosawa on 25 February 1999, the station became an intermediate stop. The multi-purpose hall 'Pathos' next to the platforms began operating on 1 April 1993, sliding platform-edge doors started on February 2009, and Exit 6 was refitted with an elevator from February 2019. Station number T03.

Notes

Kotoni Station is about 800 m from the separately-operated JR Hokkaido Kotoni Station on the Hakodate Main Line; the two stations are intentionally written with the same kanji because their distance makes confusion between them unlikely.
