History

Toyohira-Kōen Station opened on 14 October 1994 with the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tōhō Line extension from Hōsui-Susukino to Fukuzumi. The provisional working name had been Toyohira-Minami in 1981 and Toyohira in 1985 before being changed to reference the adjacent park. A direct underground concourse linking the station to the Hokkaidō Prefectural Sports Centre 'Kitaeru' was completed in February 2000, and a new dedicated entrance was added at the same time to spread crowds on event days. Platform-edge doors were activated on 20 October 2016. Ridership, initially the lowest on the Tōhō Line, has risen steadily since the sports centre opened.

Notes

Toyohira-Kōen had the lowest ridership on the Tōhō Line at opening, but its 2000 underground link to the Kitaeru sports arena steadily pulled the figures upward.
