History

Hiragishi Station (Sapporo Municipal Subway) opened on 16 December 1971 with the inauguration of the Nanboku Line between Kita-Nijuyo-Jo and Makomanai. Elevators connecting the northbound (Aso direction) concourse to street level entered service in March 2002, and those for the southbound (Makomanai direction) on 1 March 2005. The station number N12 was assigned on 26 January 2006, and platform-edge sliding doors began operating on 27 December 2012. Two opposed side platforms run east-west — an unusual orientation on the Nanboku Line.

Notes

The place name 'Hiragishi' derives from the Ainu phrase 'pira-keshi-i' meaning 'where the cliff ends'. The area was once almost entirely apple orchards; the station stamp depicts the apple-tree row along the nearby Kanjō-dōri.
