History

Mikawa Station opened on 1897-02-16 on the Hokkaido Colliery & Railway between Oiwake and Yuni, after settlers from Aichi Prefecture's old Mikawa Province petitioned for a stop on the new line. The station was nationalised on 1906-10-01 and folded into the Muroran Main Line when route names were standardised in 1909. Freight handling ended in 1972, parcel service in 1980, and the building was rebuilt in 1982. Following the 1987 JNR breakup it passed to JR Hokkaido and is today an unattended Oiwake-managed stop where the line transitions between double and single track.
