History
Satsunai Station opened on 1910-01-07 on the Japanese Government Railways' Kushiro Line, later renamed the Nemuro Main Line, in what is today Makubetsu, Hokkaidō. The station building was rebuilt in 1974, an overpass was added in 1978, and dedicated sidings serving a Daikyō Oil tank facility and an Iwatani LPG centre east of the station were withdrawn between 1982 and April 1992 as freight and parcel handling were progressively abolished. Operations transferred to JR Hokkaido at the JNR breakup on 1987-04-01. The Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket window closed on 2025-09-30, leaving the station fully unstaffed thereafter.
