History

Toyokoro Station opened on 1904-08-12 as a stop on the Japanese Government Railways, on what is now the Nemuro Main Line, and lies 81.9 kilometres from Shintoku. Control of the station passed to the Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido) on 1987-04-01 with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The station has two opposing side platforms with two tracks, connected by an open-air footbridge; Platform 1, the main track running alongside the unstaffed station building, is normally used for trains in both directions, with Platform 2 in service only when trains need to pass. The town centres of Toyokoro lie around the station, along National Route 38.
