History

Keibajōmae tram stop opened on 12 December 1898, dating back to the Hakodate Horse-drawn Railway era, and is the oldest station in Japan opened specifically to provide access to a horse-racing track. After an unspecified period of closure it reopened on 22 November 1950. Following barrier-free works completed on 18 November 2009, the stop was relocated across the intersection from its previous site. The station number is DY05 and the two opposed platforms now have widened, sloped barrier-free decks with shelters, wind-shields and road heating.

Notes

Keibajōmae is recognised as the oldest railway station in Japan opened expressly to serve a horse-racing facility. It is a designated transfer point between the Hakodate City Tram and Hakodate Bus services.
