History

Uoichiba-dōri Stop (DY19) is on the Hakodate City Tram Honsen Line in Toyokawa-chō (outbound platform) and Ōtemachi (inbound platform), Hakodate, Hokkaidō. It opened on 30 October 1913 as Kuyakusho-mae Stop ("Ward Office front"), was renamed Shiyakusho-mae Stop ("City Office front") on 1 August 1922, Shōkō-kaigisho-mae before 1938, then Uoichiba-dōri on 1 July 1967. A rebuild was completed and put into service on 26 December 2006 after the previous arrangement was deemed to be causing accidents at the adjoining intersection. On 24 January 2007 a naming-rights agreement renamed the stop "Uoichiba-dōri (Hakodate Shinkin Honten-mae)", but the original name was restored in 2017 when Hakodate Credit Union became Dōnan Umimachi Shinkin's Hakodate Central Office.

Notes

The mercury lamps installed on both platforms at Uoichiba-dōri were donated by the then-Hakodate Credit Union when it bought the naming rights in 2007 — the lights stayed after the credit union merged and the naming-rights deal ended, a quiet memorial to the brief naming-rights era.
