History

Shimizugawa was established on 10 November 1922 as the Shimizugawa Signal Point on the Government Railways' Tōhoku Main Line and was promoted to a full station on 20 June 1936. Regular freight services other than small-lot consignments ended on 1 April 1962. The stop was placed under contract operation in May 1980, parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and the station became unstaffed on 14 March 1985. With the JNR split on 1 April 1987 the station came under JR East. On 4 December 2010, when the Tōhoku Shinkansen extension to Shin-Aomori opened, the section was transferred to the Aoimori Railway Company.

Notes

Although the wooden station building survives, its ticket window has been boarded up; the upper-line waiting area is left open for passenger use.
