History
Karibasawa Station opened on 1894-01-04 as a Nippon Railway stop in the town of Hiranai, Aomori Prefecture. When Nippon Railway was nationalised on 1906-11-01 the station joined the Tōhoku Main Line under the Japanese Government Railways. Telegraph service began in 1909, scheduled freight ended in February 1962, and telegraph handling was discontinued in 1963. The station became unstaffed in 1980. JR East took over at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. When the Tōhoku Shinkansen was extended to Shin-Aomori on 2010-12-04, the parallel section of the Tōhoku Main Line was spun off to Aoimori Railway, and the unstaffed station has been part of that third-sector line ever since.
