History

Kuroishi (Aomori) sits in Kuroishi, Aomori Prefecture and is the terminus of the Konan Railway Kōnan Line, with station number KK 13. The site once contained two adjacent stations: the older Railway Bureau's Kuroishi Station, opened on 15 August 1912 as part of the Kuroishi Light Railway, and the Konan Railway's separate 'Kōnan Kuroishi Station' that opened on 1 July 1950. The JNR Kuroishi Line was transferred to Konan Railway on 1 November 1984; at that point the Kuroishi Light Railway's station was abolished and absorbed into Kōnan Kuroishi, which was placed under contract management and gained a ticket-vending machine. A new station building was constructed on 1 April 1986, when the station was also renamed simply Kuroishi. The Kuroishi Line was abolished on 1 April 1998. On 1 October 2021 Kōnan Railway began selling its 'Kōnan Tetsudō Inchō' commemorative stamp-book at the station.

Notes

Kuroishi appeared in the 1983 film 'Keiji Monogatari 2: Ringo no Uta' (in the form of the then-active JNR Kuroishi Station). After the JNR line was discontinued, the line's check-shed remains on-site and was still standing as of 2014; the JNR-era refuelling station became a bicycle park.
