History

Matsukami Station is a JR East Gonō Line stop in the town of Fukaura, Aomori Prefecture, 44.7 kilometres from the terminus at Higashi-Noshiro. It opened on 14 October 1932 as a station of the Railway Ministry, predecessor of Japanese National Railways. On 1 October 1971 freight and parcels handling ceased and the station was destaffed. At the 1 April 1987 JNR break-up it passed to JR East. The platform layout, originally two opposed side platforms with passing siding, was reduced to a single side platform; the modest current station building is a modern replacement, having previously been a converted freight wagon and, before that, the original Ministry-era building.

Notes

Between the demolition of the original Ministry-era building and the current modern shelter, the station building was a converted freight wagon fitted with windows and a doorway.
