History
Tamagawa Station opened on 5 August 1954 as a station of the Japanese National Railways on the Hachinohe Line. It passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the JNR privatisation. The station was closed along with the rest of the line after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami of 11 March 2011; service resumed on 17 March 2012. On 1 April 2022 the abolition of the Kuji stationmaster's office placed Tamagawa under the management of Hachinohe Station, and the Eki-net Q-Chiket service started on 1 October 2024.

Notes
Tamagawa is an unstaffed station with only a single side platform and a small waiting shelter; until 1 April 2022 it had been managed by the stationmaster at Kuji, not Hachinohe.
