History
Rikuchū-Nakano Station opened on 27 March 1930 as a station of the Railway Ministry (later Japan National Railways) Hachinohe Line, in what is now the town of Hirono in Iwate Prefecture. Freight operations ended on 1 October 1962, the station was contracted out on 1 April 1965, and baggage handling ceased on 10 March 1983 when the station became unstaffed. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station came under East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The current station building was completed in December 1997. The Great East Japan Earthquake suspended the line on 11 March 2011; service resumed on 17 March 2012. The 2019 East Japan typhoon also washed out part of the station embankment.
