History

Takanosu Station is the terminus of the Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway's Akita Nairiku Line in Kitaakita, Akita Prefecture, sharing a yard with JR East's Takanosu Station on the Ōu Main Line. It was created when the JNR Aniai Line was transferred to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway on 1 November 1986. On 1 April 1989 — coinciding with the full opening of the Akita Nairiku Line — the new operator's station was renamed Takanosu Station, distinguishing it from JR's Takanosu Station with which the original JNR-era 鷹ノ巣 spelling was retained. The third-sector station has a single bay platform on the Akita end of JR's platform 1 and a staffed ticket window with travel-centre services.

Notes

JR East and the Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway share track at Takanosu, but moving a train between the two networks still requires hand-throwing switches and about 30 minutes of operating time; an automated junction would cost an estimated 160 million yen and is still under debate.
