History

Hadachi Station opened on December 1, 1915 as a Japanese Government Railways station serving the now-merged port town of Funagawa in southern Akita, on what is today the Oga Line. Freight handling was discontinued in October 1970 and on-site staffing ended in March 1985. With the April 1, 1987 privatisation of Japan National Railways, the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East). A simplified commission with Oga city was dissolved in March 2006, fully unstaffing the station; a barrier-free station building was completed in 2014. From May 2023, Suica IC card acceptance has been available at the station.
