History

Shin-Tarō Station is on the Sanriku Railway Rias Line in Miyako, Iwate Prefecture, with the nickname "Masaki no Konjō". The station was conceived as part of post-disaster recovery following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami: relocation projects and land readjustment in the Tarō area produced a cluster of disaster-recovery public housing and the Sannō residential development, restoring population to the area and motivating a new stop alongside the relocated Miyako City Tarō branch office. Funding combined a national trunk-railway revitalisation grant with prefectural and municipal subsidies. Construction approval came on 12 July 2018 and the station opened on 18 May 2020 between Tarō and Settai.

Notes

The platform sits on the third floor of the rebuilt Tarō branch office; the lower floors house local government, the chamber of commerce, and Miyako Shinkin Bank, making the station a combined transport and civic hub.
